After an unexpected exit in the first round of the
Spring playoffs, the Outlaws came into this Fall season hungrier than
ever. A doubleheader on opening weekend was just what the team needed to
put the Spring season in the rear view. Finishing
the day with a 38-5 run differential, would set the tone for the
upcoming season. A week 3 match-up with the Flying Squirrels would be
their first test. Playing the Squirrels in game 2 of their second
doubleheader in the first 3 weeks proved to be too much
and the 4 game winning streak to start the season ended with the
Outlaws suffering their first loss of the Fall season. The Outlaws would
bounce back with a 3 game win streak against the Dodgers, Canes and
Dodgers again to lock up the #1 seed and finish out
the regular season with a 7-1 record.
With an embarrassing performance in the bye week
game against the Squirrels fresh on their mind, the Outlaws dominated
the Spring Champion Dodgers for the 4th time this season and cruised to a
9-1 opening round playoff win. As a result,
for the 4th time in the past 7 seasons the Outlaws and Hurricanes would
meet on Championship Sunday. In freezing cold, wet field conditions the
two teams fumbled their way through a game of who could make the most
errors, with the Outlaws winning 7-5 on an
eighth inning, two run scoring, E4. Standouts from the game were Josh
Bender with 2RBI, Bird Harmon 2-3 with a RBI and Legends Fall MVP Mike
Kirik who went 2-3 with a triple and a 5 inning, 2 hit, 0 earned run, 9
strikeout gem on the mound.
Kirik set the tone early by striking out the first
five batters he faced and left the game after 5 innings with a 3-1 lead.
Kirik dominated on the mound this season with 24 strikeouts in 13
innings while only giving up 5 hits and surrendering
just 2 earned runs. He lead the team with a .471 Batting Average with
10 of his 16 hits going for extra bases. This season’s performance
coupled with a legendary Spring season that featured a .615 Batting
Average, 10 Home Runs and 23 RBI in only 6 games, made
Mike Kirik the most deserving and overdue Legends MVP in recent memory.
With their 5th Championship win in their first 7
seasons, the Outlaws are back where they belong at the top of the 19+
division!

| MVP Rich Goad preps to fire heat! |

The Nationals upset the number one seed Lollygaggers 14-8 to win the 2017 Legends Fall 30+ baseball league championship! Don’t let the final score fool you. This was a close game between the league’s top two teams through the first half of the game. Like the Yankees trading for David Justice though, the Nationals combination of experience and some impressive newcomers proved to be too much for the Lollygaggers to handle.
Carrying the load as always, Chris Herald, Al Torres, and Rich Goad scored 9 of the 14 runs. The middle and lower parts of the lineup held their own and drove them in. Herald and Andrew Goad led the way with three hits, while Brandon Ward, Al Torres, Jason Raczkowski, and Mike “Domingo” Demarr had two apiece. Kevin Mallon and Mike Shifflett reached base twice. Huge moment late in the game as Mike Shifflett came to the plate, potentially for his last Legends AB, and lined a hit to the outfield to score a big insurance run and keep a rally going. What a moment, and just a total team effort at the plate.
Just as big as the run production, defense and pitching while dicey at times, proved to be the difference late in the game. Jason came in and put an end to the Lollygaggers hopes. Just 4 men reached base over 4 solid innings. Huge! is an understatement. Jason led the team this year in hits, and combined with Rich to pitch 63 of the teams 82 innings. Their combined season era of 4.14 with a 1.4 whip and 7.3 k/9 was more than enough to compliment a team batting .388/.470/.514 with 126 runs and 108 rbis in 461 PA’s!
Big shout out to the umpires for a game well called, and to the coaches and players for being gentlemen and playing an all-around enjoyable, friendly game of baseball. Lastly, the Nationals were proud to honor our team captain, coach, leader, a man who is always smiling and lifting everyone up with a well-deserved MVP. Congratulations to Rich Goad, and to his Father Robert Goad, the Nationals Fan of the Year.
What a season, what a team, what a league! Thank you to the commissioner Ron Cortese for organizing these great moments playing a game that we love. Here’s to striving for another three peat next season! Natitude!
40+ Pirates

The Pirates march to their second championship in the fall of 2017 was
due to an overall team performance with great depth all around.
The lineup was anchored by the 3-4-5 hitters of Akil Barlow, Carlos
Carvallo, and Jon Champ. The OPS for these three were 1.222, .989, and
1.433. Barlow had the most home runs, Carvallo the most consistent and
least strikeouts, and Champ the most games missed
due to a new child (two games). Overall the team batted .361,
including 7 additional players at .300 or better including. Pat McCane
hit .367, Jeff Alexander came in at .333, John Campbell .300 (plus a
team leading 10 walks), Demian Dominguez hit .429, Matt
Edwards .458, Fred Lewis .421, and Moises Perez .429. Cody Lewis led
the team in steals. Luis Feliciano led the team in foul balls down the
3rd base line.
While the offense was potent at times, including 4 games in of 16 or
more runs (including the finals vs the Expos), the pitching was the real
difference maker. The pitching staff consisted of Carlos Carvallo, Pat
McCane, Kevin Jillions and Luis Feliciano.
Carvallo was a new spring addition and turned in one great performance
after another no matter what role he was thrust into (Starter, middle
reliever or closer). McCane provided his usual offering of off-speed
junk and kept hitters guessing. Feliciano provided
valuable innings and helped keep teams off kilter. Jillions, the lone
lefty on the staff was pure nasty. When he was on the mound (usually
closing) the defense usually rested as Jillions blew away even the best
of hitters.
Between the pitching and hitting the Team MVP was Carlos Carvallo.
